Freezing, stuttering and repeated disconnections can make Hearthstone difficult to play. Before troubleshooting, confirm that your PC meets or exceeds these minimum requirements.

- Operating System: Windows 11/10 and later
- Processor: Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2
- Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT or ATI Radeon HD 2600XT or better
- Memory: 3 GB RAM
- Storage: 3 GB available HD space
- Resolution: 1024 x 768 minimum display resolution
If your hardware meets these requirements, try the following fixes in order.
Update the graphics driver
The graphics driver helps the GPU render what appears on screen. Install the latest available version to address problems caused by the graphics subsystem. You can search online for your system’s driver downloads, then locate the driver by name on the relevant site.
Adjust graphics settings
Right-click the desktop to access NVIDIA control panel or AMD Radeon settings. Try these changes:
- Turn off VSync using the option appropriate to your GPU.
- Set Power management to maximum.
- Set Threaded optimization to Off.
Try different available options and check whether freezing or stuttering improves.
Close unnecessary background processes
Open Task Manager and end unneeded background processes. Games require substantial system resources, and other running processes can leave less available for Hearthstone.
Check the internet connection
Poor connectivity or network problems can cause disconnections. Try a better network, flush your DNS and confirm that your connection is operating at its maximum speed. You can also try the Network Reset button.
Lower in-game settings
Graphics mode, shadow quality, texture details and other effects may be set beyond your PC’s capabilities. On Hearthstone’s Settings page, reduce them to their minimum levels and test the game again.
If these methods do not help, uninstall Hearthstone, delete its temporary files and reinstall it. You can also try the Ultimate Performance Power Plan in Windows.
When Hearthstone will not reconnect
If disconnections continue, check the network again and try connecting the PC with an Ethernet cable. Hearthstone normally reconnects automatically once internet access returns. If the connection is working but the game does not reconnect, relaunch it.
Server problems can also interrupt connections. In that case, wait a while before trying again.
